Valle di Lazzaro Stefano Farkas

Italia Elba island - Tuscany

Elban enology dates back to 3000 years ago and owes its origins to the Etruscans; on the island there are still stone millstones from that period.
In Stefano Farkas' company, Valle di Lazzaro, the recovery of the terraces that characterized the ancient Elban agricultural system lasted five years and today vines of Aleatico, Sangiovese, Vermentino and Chardonnay are finally in production. On the estate, the small and narrow terraces prevent the use of machinery and require precision agriculture with the use of multiple manual processes, a truly 'heroic' viticulture.
For this reason, in the past decades on the Island of Elba this type of viticulture had been abandoned for vineyards in flat and more comfortable positions.
After years of intense work, Stefano Farkas has managed to make Valle di Lazzaro a place of oenological excellence.
